Based on the novel of the same name by StephenKing from the collection “La sangre manda” (“If it bleeds” in the original language), “Mr. Harrigan’s phone(“Mr. Harrigan’s Telephone”) is a Netflix horror film The story follows Craig (Jaeden Martell), a boy who, after the death of his mother, takes a job reading books for an elderly millionaire, Mr. Harrigan (Donald Sutherland).

After a few years, Craig is already a teenager and continues to work for Mr. Harrigan. In fact, he enjoys the time he spends with the businessman. For Christmas, the father of the protagonist of the film, written and directed by John Lee Hancock, gives him his first iPhone, and the first thing he does with his new phone is call Sutherland’s character to say hello.

With the prize of a lottery ticket, he buys Mr. Harrigan an iPhone so they can communicate. Although the old man seems disinterested, Craig shows him that he can use it to review his stock market investments and read the latest business news, so he happily accepts.

When Craig tells Mr. Harrigan he’s having some troubles at school, the old man makes him promise to get rid of his enemies with no guilt or remorse. Although the teenager does not understand the meaning of these words, he promises.

Shortly thereafter, Mr. Harrigan dies of a heart attack, leaving Craig heartbroken. During the funeral, the protagonist of “Mr. Harrigan’s phone‘ says goodbye to his friend and puts the iPhone he’s been given in his coffin. That same night he writes to her that he will miss their evenings together.

And the next day he receives a letter in which the old millionaire tells him that he has left him a foundation that will enable him to study without any worries and that he will also miss the afternoons spent together. He finds these words very strange, but prefers to concentrate on his studies and the prom.

After school bully Kenny Yankovich ruins his evening, Craig calls Mr. Harrigan to tell him what happened. The next day, she receives news that Kenny has died in a strange way, and she can’t help but feel guilty. However, Teacher Hart calms him down.

Angry at this injustice, Craig searches for his old phone and calls Mr. Harrigan to ask him to get rid of the culprit behind his favorite teacher’s death. Although she regrets it almost immediately, it’s too late, Deane Whitmore is found dead in her room.

What happens to Craig?

Racked with guilt, Craig finally decides to get rid of his old cell phone. Despite throwing the phone his father gave him into the water, he keeps the new one because he admits it’s a way to communicate with the rest of the world. Afterwards he visits Mr. Harrigan’s grave and bids him farewell.

It also tries to understand the cryptic messages it sends you. The young man thinks he’s asking him to stop because he’s hurting the old man, or maybe because he’s hurting himself. Anyway, he excuses himself and leaves.

Before leaving the cemetery, he visits his mother’s grave, something he had not done before because of the pain it caused him. He admits it was a way of not thinking about that tragedy

Why did Mr. Harrigan choose Craig?

In the opening minutes of “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone,” Craig wonders why the old man picked him and finds the answer at the end of the Netflix film. Thanks to the memories Harrigan hid in his closet, the young man realizes that his friend lost his mother when he was a child.

And when he saw Craig going through a similar situation, he understood what he felt and what he needed: an excuse to get out of the house and not be alone.
