Google Pixel 7 Pro review

Google returns with its Pixel products to conquer Italy. Starting with Pixel 7 Pro, the top-of-the-line model for 2022.

In the slim package of this smartphone we find a USB-C / USB-C cable and a USB-A / USB-C adapter. On the other hand, neither the power adapter nor the cover are included, both of which need to be purchased separately.

construction and ergonomics

Pixel 7 Pro it is the same as its predecessor in every respect. At least we’re talking about design language. Those who don’t follow the world of technology could simply think of a new color. However, there are some details that make it different from others, such as: B. the metal camera rod, which harmonises perfectly with the side frame. The cameras are instead deployed in black “pills” in this bar. However, although the design is very particular and not everyone likes it, we must recognize that the uniqueness of this solution makes it one of a kind and undoubtedly the new colors have improved the pleasure on the eye. The smartphone is then protected by a glass Gorilla Glass Victus and is guaranteed against water and dust acc IP68 standard.

The Pixel 7 Pro hardware is top-of-the-line bonus to all effects. We have the second generation of Google tensor (G2), Google Octa Core 4 nanometer processor and with Mali G710 MC10 GPU. This smartphone comes with 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. Storage is not expandable. Thanks to eSIM support, you can use your smartphone in dual SIM mode. The rest of the connectivity is also very good: 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C 3.2 output. Finally, there is no lack of support for ultrawideband, although this has not yet found its way onto Android. Good stereo sound and very good haptic feedback system for vibrations.

The performance of the Google CPU is very good, although after prolonged intensive use we noticed a certain tendency to increase the temperatures and after about five minutes the performance “slumped” between 50 and 65%.

This is information that is often only found in benchmarks, since there are no noticeable drops in performance in daily use.

Google Pixel 7 Pro comes with a set of three main and one front camera. We have a main of 50 megapixels ƒ / 1.9 with optical stabilization, a 48 megapixel ƒ/3.5 5x zoom and a 12 megapixel wide-angle ƒ/2.2 with a larger sensor from last year and autofocus for macros. It is a very flexible photoset as it is also possible to take photos with a 2x zoom by cropping the central part of the main sensor and to replicate the same concept with the 10x zoom of the 48 megapixel sensor, if the ambient light allows it. It’s then possible to take portrait mode photos with two zoom levels and, as mentioned, take high-resolution macro photos. It’s a nice feature, but in many cases you’ll prefer to shoot with the main sensor due to the shallower depth of field.

The photos are from Pixel. Translated: excellent. The focus is lightning fast, very precise and can track moving objects. The colors are perfectly balanced and even The white point is always correct. Where a little too much sharpness seems to come into play is with some photos in portrait mode or 2x “hybrid” zoom. The wide-angle shots are also good, even if you notice the difference in quality in the night shots, where the main camera “replaces” the others with a few measures. The “magic” of the Pixel’s virtual extended exposure allows you to capture very bright and detailed shots even in very low light. You also have control over how long to shoot, thus overcoming automatism. The difference from the photos, where night mode is disabled, is unforgiving. Among other things, the mode has also been accelerated astrophotography (which we haven’t been able to try yet).

Among the others found by Google we still find the photos in motion mode, the panning effect, the portrait light and the magic eraser. The novelty of this smartphone is the functionality of blurred This allowed you to take pictures that were not sharp. It can only really work magic in a few cases, but in many cases it can still significantly increase the quality of the photo. The front camera off 10.8 megapixels ƒ / 2.2. It is a pity, however, that the resolution has not increased, not to match the competition.

great video The films there 4K up to 60fps are among the best of all time in the smartphone landscape. In addition to the stabilization, the smoothness with which you can switch between the different zoom levels is also surprising. You can also make good videos with the same resolution from the front camera. Among the novelties is the ability to create videos in HDR and the new Cinema mode with which you can create videos with effect bokeh in full HD.

It’s a shame for the low resolution, but above all for the various focusing problems that we encountered. When it works, the effects are convincing, but often don’t last long. Since it is an almost complete software system, an update could improve it significantly.

Google Pixel 7 Pro it still has a 6.7-inch display with a resolution of 1220 x 3120 pixels, which can be lowered to FullHD+ via software to save some battery. The screen is friendly LTPO AMOLED and supports an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz. We have full support for HDR10+ and a maximum peak brightness of 1,500 nits, which is an improvement over last year. A great display, slightly less curved at the edges than the previous model. It supports the always-on display and is protected by a Gorilla Glass Victus.

It’s impossible to talk about pixels without talking about software. This smartphone is obviously coming onto the market Android 13 (updated with October 2022 patches). Everything is customized with the Pixel experience, but overall it’s difficult to tell the stock system from Google’s customization at first glance.

Among the most interesting features are the Android themes, the ability to transcribe messages and calls in real time (and in this case also reply by text) and the addition of already translated subtitles to the videos being played. The transcription of the text in the dictaphone is not yet available. Among other things, we point out the presence of the system is running which detects the songs listened to in the locked phone environment and the game optimizer (which only works automatically and not for all titles).

Overall, the system runs very smoothly and it cannot be overlooked that the Pixel is one of the smartphones that update faster and longer.

Google Pixel comes with a 5,000mAh. This smartphone offers good autonomy overall, although not the best in its panorama.

However, it is difficult to lose energy before the end of the day, especially if you set the screen to FullHD and do not perform prolonged operations for a long time. Charging is fast at 30W, fast enough but again definitely below current standards. there 23W wireless charging instead, it’s pretty fast all things considered.

Google Pixel 7 Pro is inexpensive €899 in the 128GB size, while for those with double internal memory it costs 100€ more. These are prices that we now associate with top-of-the-line smartphones, while the Pixel 7 Pro is actually a smartphone bonus, along with devices well over €1000 in almost all cases. In a world where prices are skyrocketing, Pixel 7 Pro costs the same as last year. Great. It can also be bought on Amazon.

Final Judgment

Google Pixel 7 Pro

Google Pixel 7 Pro is a great product. As with other smartphones in this 2022, although the technological advances are there, they are actually not surprising. But we still started with an excellent smartphone and various interesting improvements have been made, such as the new processor and some new innovations in the cameras. But what makes it “shine” and becomes arguably the best smartphone bonus buying today is its price. Several hundred euros less than the competition of the same size.
