Black Adam hit the press. The new DC Comics film already has its first reviews and… There’s talk of disappointment.
We already have the first reviews of Black Adam, The Rock here. Yesterday was the world premiere of Warner Bros. Discovery for trade media, general press and other types of users. The DC Comics tape is under the umbrella of Henry Cavill’s return to the DCEU. But despite the aura of excitement and anticipation, the truth is that the press isn’t exactly talking miracles about the film. In this post, we collect everything they say about the Dwayne Johnson film, which is also presented to the Justice Society of America (JSA).
This is what the media say about the film!
Gizmondo. “Black Adam is a worthy new piece of the DC puzzle. However, she is not the savior they promised. A stunningly condensed timeline keeps the action gripping and the pace meteoric. But it also transforms its many, many plots, themes, and characters into elegant window dressing. It’s messy, but in a way that shows.”
diversity. “The Rock is excellent in Black Adam. This includes a variety of themed stones anchored in the real world. Most moving is that it reinforces the need for heroes in dark times. Director Jaume Collet-Serra presents the basic ingredients for building an even bigger universe. The action is fun and massive in scope.”
fandango. “Tons of action, instantly engaging characters and an incredible pace. Dwayne Johnson strikes a great balance between menacing and tough, but also sensitive. I especially liked Hawkman and Doctor Fate. More JSA movies please!”
Next best picture. “Black Adam initially struggles to gain a foothold. But once the Justice Society of America gets in on the action, it becomes a fun film to watch. Dwayne Johnson’s antihero introduces an intriguing new dynamic within the DCEU. The visual effects are solid. The villain, weak. The post-credits scene got the craziest reactions in the whole movie.”
CNET. “I had to go through some metal detectors for the Black Adam screening in New York. Too bad it was so bad. It has no emotional depth. Zero sense of danger to the main character and boring CGI combat.”
More Early DC Movie Reviews!
ScreenRant. “Black Adam changed the rules of the game! This is the DC Comics movie I’ve been waiting for and I wasn’t disappointed. The Rock is electrifying and brutal. That’s how I wanted the character and the film to be. The action doesn’t stop and it was exciting to see the JSA in cinemas.”
We live entertainment. “Black Adam is everything I hoped for and more. A Zack Snyder-style anti-hero extravaganza packed with action and immersive locations. Dwayne Johnson transforms into the character. It’s a role he was born to play. It’s also great fun to watch Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindell.”
vox. “Black Adam works in many ways. There’s a charm offense from Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan; Aldis Hodge exudes charisma and the chemistry between Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindell is evident. However, the internal logic and inconsistency of the script make it a disappointing story.”
comic book. “Black Adam is based on epic non-stop action. I immediately wanted a sequel with a smoother storyline. When it moves, it’s an adrenaline rush. The characters are great, especially Teth-Adam and Doctor Fate. It’s a film about villains. This character is a role The Rock excels in. He’s great as Teth-Adam. Then again, the idea of crossing paths with other DC heroes and villains after this film is fabulous.
TheDirect. “Unfortunately, Black Adam isn’t the success Warner Bros. needed. It’s full of clumsy performance, has a memorable villain, and feels like it’s just chasing the action. Doctor Fate was by far the best part of the film, but Atom Smasher is a dud. It’s kind of funny, but overall it’s a forgettable movie.”
