What is the reason for the great popularity of the concerts?

According to the experts, the curfew to which the population in the country was subjected seems to be the reason why the concerts are now sold out at the box office.

Reactivation is fine. From March everyone started buying tickets and this has been seen not only in Peru but across Latin America such as Chile, Argentina and Brazil. It seems that people who have spent more than two years at home without seeing shows have gone out to solve their problems and want to go to concerts” commented Jorge Fernández Mazaira, President of the Department of Artistic, Cultural and Related Shows (Arena) of the Lima Chamber of Commerce.

He pointed out that in this second half the number of shows exceeds the first half of the year.

concert prices

The businessman explained that the factor in the prices of the tickets for the shows was due to the rising exchange rate.

The problem is that the dollar has risen and is close to S/4. The sounds, the lights, the screens, the artist are in dollars. If the businessman does not sell the sum (of the concerts), he loses. There are about four major shows this year that have been suspended over fears of sales“, he claimed.

He added that the shows are more demanding in the technical part, such as optics, and this requires a bigger investment. “Now they play sound for the audience and return to the stage, screens everywhere, lights too. The shows are better but this is more expensive“, said.

new entrepreneurs

According to Fernández, due to the inactivity of the arts industry, several businessmen had to stop betting on the shows in 2020 and 2021, but this year they are gradually returning and new companies are springing up.

They’re already coming back, but with new companies, and there are other new entrepreneurs joining. Therefore I believe that reactivation will be complete in 2023, unless political problems tug at the country“, I agree.

tax reduction

Regarding the reactivation of the entertainment industry, Jorge Fernández pointed out that they have reached an agreement with Apdayc, according to which copyright remuneration will be reduced from 10% to 5%, as is the case in Chile and Argentina.

Right now I have an agreement with Apdayc that they will charge all arena partners 5% until December 31st 2023. We have to conclude this contract every two years‘ he elaborated.

He also mentioned that there should be a VAT reduction (currently 18%) for shows. “To do this, a bill must be submitted to Congress. In Argentina, no national or foreign fair pays Value Added Tax (VAT) of 21%, which is why this industry employs thousands of people there.‘ he referred.
